Introducing
Silvia Colloca
I was born in Italy, and no matter where life has taken me since, it remains the place that continues to shape who I am. My earliest memories are of family kitchens, long lunches that stretched into the afternoon, and the simple belief that food is one of the most powerful ways to bring people together.
Today I call Sydney home, but Italy is never far from my heart. Over the years, I've shared the food, stories and traditions of my homeland through cookbooks, television and live events.
The show I'm most proud of — and the one people still stop me to talk about — was the first series I made for SBS. We filmed in the smaller places. The villages. The kitchens where nonnas still roll pasta by hand and recipes have been passed down for generations. That's the Italy I want to share.
Not the version you can tick off on a sightseeing itinerary, but the Italy that reveals itself through people and unexpected moments. You might find yourself horse riding through a landscape that looks like a Renaissance painting, only to discover the family who own the horses are also the local butchers. Before long, you're sitting around a table learning how to make salami and sharing stories over a glass of wine.
Italy isn't something I've studied or recreated from afar. It's where I grew up. It's the language I slip back into without thinking. It's the familiarity of a local market, a family kitchen, a tiny trattoria tucked away on a village street.
When I'm there, I'm not trying to show people an authentic Italy. I'm simply sharing the one I've always known, the Italy that feels like home.
