There is a version of Bali that most visitors never find. Not the temples or the rice terraces, but the back rooms of the workshops, the studio floors covered in dye, the printers who've been pressing cloth by hand for thirty years. That is Alice's Bali, and for seven days, she’s inviting you to share it with her.

Alice MacGillivray has spent the past decade building relationships with the makers behind Bright Threads - not from the outside looking in, but material by material, dyer by dyer, village by village. This retreat is your invitation into that world. The places you'll visit are not on any tour itinerary. They're accessible because of trust built slowly, over years. That access is what makes this week genuine.

Based in Sanur, the retreat moves between workshops, factory floors and market streets. Spaces not typically open to visitors, but accessed through connections. Across the week, guests immerse themselves in the full textile process from raw cloth to finished piece, understanding materials and natural dyes to working hands-on with traditional techniques alongside local artisans. There is time to design, observe, and ask questions, gaining a deeper understanding of how these pieces are made and why they carry such meaning.

The retreat is structured without being rigid. Mornings are spent with Alice in studios and workshops; afternoons are designed to absorb, explore, or simply relax. Alice’s approach is immersive rather than instructional, learning happens through conversation and observation.

Across the week, you’ll design and create your own Bright Threads piece to take home. Before departure, a member of the team will guide you through selecting your base from the Bright Threads Simplicity Collection — think polka dots, gingham, or viennetta.

From there, the possibilities are yours: a dress, cushion covers, a table setting, a bed throw — or even a piece you already own, reimagined. If there’s something you love, you’re welcome to bring it along, with Alice and the team working alongside you to recreate it in your chosen print and colour.

This is more than a final piece. You’ll leave with something personal, a keepsake that carries the story of your time in Bali, alongside creative confidence, a deeper understanding of the craft, and Alice’s Bali.

The group stays at Meru Sanur, beachside and hand picked by Alice, for a sense of calm that makes it an ideal base for the week. Studio days extend into Denpasar, where Alice works closely with long-standing artisan partners. Time is also spent in Seminyak, visiting some of her favourite retail and homeware stores. Most days ends with an aperitivo, long dinners and the kind of table talk that only happens when the right people are in the right room. The retreat closes at Tandjung Sari, one of Sanur’s oldest and most quietly iconic hotels, for a farewell dinner that bookends a truly transformative week.

This is you access to the world of Bright Threads, the moments, the people, and the details that are rarely visible from the outside. It exists because of a deep love of linen, the craft and years of relationships. You'll leave with a piece you made, a story you'll tell, and a new way of seeing the world in colour.

Years visiting Bali

40+

I am Alice — the linen lover, long-lunch hostess and colour enthusiast behind Bright Threads.

Some of my earliest memories are of my parents’ extravagant dinner parties — Mum in the kitchen, Dad carefully selecting bottles from the cellar, voices rolling late into the night. Years later, I found myself hosting my own long lunches at Mum’s house. The tables were a glorious jumble of mismatched crockery and cutlery, and the guest list a mix of friends old and new — often people I had met only the night before. It was chaotic, colourful and completely joyful, and it cemented my love of bringing people together around a table.

The idea for Bright Threads first arrived while planning our wedding, when I couldn’t find bold, beautiful linen that wasn’t plain white. Years later, on maternity leave with my daughter — and finally with a home big enough to host again — the idea resurfaced, and this time I ran with it. I wanted linen that felt luxurious, colourful, made to last, and special enough to build memories around.

Finding the right makers led me to Bali, where I now work closely with traditional screen printers and a highly skilled sewing team who handcraft every piece with care and skill. Bright Threads has grown alongside me and today continues to evolve — still made slowly, intentionally, and with heart.

More than anything, I want to inspire people to be brave with colour — to mix patterns, break the rules, and create tables that feel warm, generous and full of life. For me, it has always been about the same thing: bringing people together, one beautiful table at a time.

This retreat is an extension of that — an opportunity to step inside the process, the people and the place that shape everything I create.

And if you're the kind of person who believes the best memories are made around a table — not behind a screen — I can't wait to welcome you.

FAQ's

What to know before you book.

Can I advise dietary requirements?

• Please let us know about any dietary requirements at the time of booking. We’ll always do our best to accommodate these, however we can’t guarantee that every request can be met, as menus and ingredients vary by destination. Some specific requests may not be available at every stop. • Many of the venues we visit offer a range of options, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-conscious dishes where possible. We’ve thoughtfully designed the journey to be as inclusive as we can across different dietary preferences. • As we partner with a variety of independent food and drink venues, offerings may differ. We recommend checking directly with each venue to ensure meals and drinks meet your personal requirements, particularly in relation to allergens.

Can I join the retreat as a solo traveller?

Absolutely. This retreat is designed for everyone, whether you are traveling with a partner, a friend, or completely on your own. If you are thinking about coming solo, Alice has designed this retreat with you specifically in mind. Sixteen people, brought together by the experience itself. People who love beautiful things, who are curious, who want to create and connect and be genuinely present somewhere extraordinary.

Can I book flights, pre or post accommodation and travel insurance?

Yes. Please email hello@qurocollective.com.au for any travel requirements.

If I’m sharing a room, can we pay separately?

Yes. Please choose to pay separately at checkout.

Do you have more info about the item I’ll be making?

This is a rare opportunity to step inside the factory and experience the process from the inside out — selecting your print, choosing your colour, and designing a piece that is entirely your own. Before departure, a member of the team will be in touch to guide you through selecting your base from the Bright Threads Simplicity Collection — think polka dots, gingham, or viennetta. From there, the possibilities are yours: a dress, cushion covers, a table set, a bed throw — or a piece you already own, reimagined. If you have something you love, you’re welcome to bring it along. The team will work with you to recreate it in your chosen print and colour. At the Welcome event, Sandi will meet with you to confirm your design — finalising colours, proportions and measurements ahead of your time in the factory. Your piece will then be brought to life by the makers, and on our final evening together, each creation will be presented — a collection of pieces that carry the story of the week, and of where they were made.

What's not included?

- International and domestic flights - Travel insurance - Visas - Meals and drinks unless otherwise mentioned - Gratuities - Optional experiences - Personal purchases and shopping - Pre- and post-trip accommodation For help with flights, insurance and pre or post accommodation please email us at hello@qurocollective.com

These Booking Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern all bookings made with Quro Collective Pty Ltd (ACN 692 832 885), trading as Quro Collective ("Quro", "we", "us", "our"). By making a booking with us, you ("the Guest", "you", "your") acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. Quro Collective is an Australian-registered tour operator that designs and operates creator-hosted, small-group journeys. We operate as the merchant of record for all bookings. All journeys are land-only packages; international and domestic flights are not included unless expressly stated.

In these Terms, 'Journey' means the specific creator-hosted, small-group land-only tour package operated by Quro Collective as described in your booking confirmation and on the relevant journey listing on our website and excludes any independent travel arrangements you make (including international and domestic flights) unless we expressly state otherwise.

We reserve the right to decline any booking request for any reason, including but not limited to risk, compliance, safety, operational, or regulatory considerations. No contract arises until we issue written confirmation.

1. Booking & Confirmation

1.1 How to Book Bookings can be made through our website at qurocollective.com or by contacting our team directly. All journey listings and promotional materials on our website constitute an invitation to treat only and do not represent a binding offer. A booking is considered a request until confirmed by us in writing (including by email). We reserve the right to accept or decline any booking request for any reason. 1.2 Confirmation Your booking is confirmed once we have received your completed booking form, the required deposit payment, and we have issued you a written booking confirmation. A binding contract between you and Quro Collective is formed at the point of confirmation subject to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law ("ACL"). 1.3 Who Can Book The lead guest making the booking must be at least 18 years of age. By making a booking, the lead guest confirms they are authorised to accept these Terms on behalf of all guests included in the booking. 1.4 Guest Information

You must provide complete and accurate personal details for all guests at the time of booking, including full legal name (as it appears on your passport), date of birth, nationality, and any relevant medical or dietary requirements.

If any information you provide is incomplete or inaccurate, this may result in denied boarding or entry, refusal of service by third-party providers, additional costs, or third-party fees to amend or reissue bookings. You are responsible for any such consequences and costs to the extent they arise from information you supplied being incomplete or inaccurate, and Quro Collective accepts no liability for them, except to the extent required by the Australian Consumer Law.

Single supplement charges may apply for sole occupancy and will be clearly shown before you confirm your booking. Any mandatory government taxes or charges will be clearly identified at time of booking. 2.2 What Is Included Each journey listing on our website specifies what is and is not included in the price. Unless expressly stated, the journey price includes accommodation, meals as specified in the itinerary, experiences and activities as listed, ground transportation as specified, and the services of a local guide or tour leader. 2.3 What Is Not Included

Unless expressly stated, the journey price does not include:

• international or domestic flights unless specified

• travel insurance (which is mandatory — see Section 7)

• visa and passport fees

• meals not specified in the itinerary

• personal expenses (laundry, telephone, minibar, etc.)

• optional activities or excursions

• tips and gratuities (unless stated)

• any items not specifically listed as included 2.4 Deposit A non-refundable deposit of 30% of the total journey price per person is required at the time of booking to secure your place. Deposits are non-refundable, including cancellation by you for any reason. 2.5 Final Payment The balance of the journey price is due no later than 100 days prior to the scheduled departure date. If your booking is made within 100 days of departure, the full journey price is payable at the time of booking. Failure to pay the balance by the due date may result in automatic cancellation of your booking, and the deposit will be forfeited in accordance with clause 2.4. 2.6 Payment Methods We accept payment by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), debit card, and direct bank transfer. A credit card surcharge may apply and will be disclosed at the time of payment. 2.7 Price Adjustments All prices, payments, and refunds are denominated in Australian Dollars (AUD). Quro reserves the right to adjust journey prices at any time prior to your booking being confirmed. However, errors may occasionally occur. We reserve the right to correct any pricing error and to cancel or amend any booking made at an incorrect price, even after confirmation and payment. If a pricing error affects your booking, we will notify you as soon as practicable and offer you the choice of proceeding at the corrected price or cancelling your booking for a full refund of all monies paid.

3. Cancellation by You

3.1 Cancellation Policy All cancellations must be submitted in writing to hello@qurocollective.com. The following cancellation terms apply, calculated from the date we receive your written cancellation notice:

• Cancellation 100 or more days prior to departure: The deposit (30% of the journey price) is forfeited and non-refundable.

• Cancellation 75 to 99 days prior to departure: 50% of the total journey price is forfeited and non-refundable.

• Cancellation 61 to 74 days prior to departure: 75% of the total journey price is forfeited and non-refundable.

• Cancellation 60 or fewer days prior to departure: 100% of the total journey price is forfeited and non-refundable.

We strongly recommend that all guests purchase comprehensive travel insurance at the time of booking to protect against unforeseen cancellation (see Section 7). 3.2 Partial Cancellation If one or more guests in a booking cancel but the remaining guests wish to proceed, the booking will be recalculated based on the reduced number of guests. This may result in a revised journey price (for example, due to single supplement charges). The cancellation terms above apply to the departing guest(s). 3.3 No-Show Guests who fail to arrive at the designated departure point, or who are unable to travel due to missing, incomplete, or invalid travel documents, will be treated as a cancellation after final payment. No refund will be provided, and you will remain liable for any additional costs incurred by Quro as a result of the no-show.

4. Changes & Cancellation by Quro

4.1 Minor Changes We reserve the right to make minor changes to any journey itinerary, accommodation, or included services where reasonably necessary. Minor changes include, but are not limited to, changes to accommodation of a similar or higher standard, adjustments to the order of itinerary activities, substitution of included meals or experiences with comparable alternatives, and changes to local guides or transport providers. Minor changes do not entitle you to a refund or cancellation. 4.2 Significant Changes

A significant change is one that materially affects the overall nature of the journey. If we make a significant change before departure, we will notify you as soon as practicable and offer you the choice of:

1. accepting the amended journey;

2. transferring to an alternative journey of comparable value (subject to availability); or

3. cancelling your booking and receiving a full refund of all monies paid to Quro. 4.3 Cancellation by Quro We reserve the right to cancel any journey departure for any reason, including but not limited to insufficient enrolment (minimum group size not met), safety or security concerns, force majeure events (see Section 10), or regulatory or legal requirements. If we cancel a journey for any reason other than your breach of these Terms, you will receive a full refund of all monies paid to Quro. This refund will be your sole remedy, and we will not be liable for any additional costs, losses, or expenses incurred by you as a result of our cancellation (including but not limited to airfares, accommodation, visa fees, or travel insurance premiums), except to the extent required by the Australian Consumer Law. 4.4 Host Withdrawal

If the designated journey host is unable to participate in a scheduled departure for any reason, this will be treated as a significant change for the purposes of clause 4.2. Quro will notify you as soon as practicable and you will be entitled to the options set out in clause 4.2, including cancelling your booking and receiving a full refund of all monies paid to Quro.

Where practicable, Quro will endeavour to source an alternative host or journey leader of comparable experience and profile. If you elect to proceed with the journey under an alternative host, you will have no further claim against Quro in relation to the host change, subject to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. 4.5 Minimum Numbers Each journey requires a minimum number of guests to operate. If this minimum is not reached, we reserve the right to cancel the departure up to 100 days prior to the scheduled departure date. In this case, you will receive a full refund of all monies paid to Quro for that journey, which will be your sole remedy except to the extent required by the Australian Consumer Law. We will not be responsible for any additional costs you incur (such as flights, accommodation, or visa fees) as a result of such cancellation. 5. Amendments by You If you wish to amend your booking after confirmation (for example, changing guest names or transferring to a different departure date), please contact us in writing at bookings@qurocollective.com. Amendments are subject to availability, supplier rules, fare differences, and Quro's sole discretion and may be subject to additional costs. An administration fee of $150 per amendment may apply, where the amendment can be made and does not amount to a cancellation and rebooking. Name changes and date transfers are treated as a cancellation and rebooking if the amendment cannot be accommodated, in which case the cancellation terms in Section 3 will apply subject to your rights under the ACL. 6. Travel Documents & Entry Requirements

It is your sole responsibility to ensure that you hold a valid passport with at least six months' validity beyond your return date, all required visas, entry permits, and transit visas for your journey, and any required health certificates or vaccination records.

Quro may provide general guidance on visa and entry requirements, but this information is provided as a courtesy only and is not legal or immigration advice and may not be current or complete. We accept no liability for any guest who is denied entry to any country, denied boarding by any carrier, or incurs any loss or expense due to failure to comply with entry requirements. This clause does not exclude or limit any rights you may have in relation to services that are not supplied with due care and skill, or that are not fit for their purpose, under the ACL. 7. Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory for all Quro journeys. You must hold a policy that covers, at a minimum:

• the full cost of the journey (including cancellation and curtailment)

• overseas medical and hospital expenses

• personal liability

• loss of luggage and personal effects

• emergency evacuation and repatriation

Proof of insurance must be uploaded to your customer portal prior to departure, and Quro reserves the right to refuse participation to any guest who cannot provide evidence of adequate travel insurance. If you are refused participation solely due to not holding mandatory insurance, any refund or credit will be determined in accordance with Section 3 (Cancellation by You) and your rights under the ACL.

We recommend purchasing travel insurance at the time of booking to ensure you are covered for cancellation from the date of confirmation. Insurance is arranged directly with insurers and is subject to their terms. Quro is not liable for claim outcomes.

8. Health, Fitness & Special Requirements

8.1 Fitness to Travel Our journeys may involve moderate physical activity including walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs, and travelling in vehicles for extended periods. Specific fitness or mobility requirements are noted on each journey listing. It is your responsibility to assess your own fitness and suitability for the journey you are booking. If you have any doubt, please contact us before booking. 8.2 Medical Conditions You must disclose any pre-existing medical condition, disability, reduced mobility, or special requirement that may affect your ability to participate in the journey at the time of booking. Quro may require a medical assessment from a qualified practitioner where reasonably necessary. Failure to disclose relevant medical conditions may result in your being unable to participate in some or all journey activities, and no refund will be provided in such circumstances subject to any rights you may have under the ACL where we fail to provide services with due care and skill or they are not reasonably fit for purpose. 8.3 Emerging Medical Conditions If, after making your booking, you develop or become aware of any new or changed medical condition that may affect your ability to participate in the journey or that may reasonably increase your risk of requiring medical attention, you must notify us as soon as practicable. We may request a medical assessment from a qualified practitioner. If the assessment indicates that you are unable to safely participate or require assistance that we cannot reasonably provide, cancellation terms in Section 3 will apply. 8.4 Age Requirements Guests must be at least 12 years of age at the date of departure to participate in a Quro journey. Guests aged 12 to 17 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who is also a booked guest on the same journey. Certain journeys may have higher age requirements, which will be specified on the journey listing, at Quro's discretion. 8.5 Guest Profile Prior to departure, each guest is required to complete a personal bio and profile through the Quro traveller portal. This information is provided to the journey host in advance so they can prepare for the group and tailor the experience. Failure to complete your guest profile by the date specified in your booking confirmation may result in your exclusion from the Journey without refund if it materially affects operations. 8.6 Background & Safety Checks Quro reserves the right to request a national police check or equivalent background check from any guest prior to departure, where reasonably necessary to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the journey host, other guests, and local communities. You must bear all costs of obtaining any requested check. If a guest is unable or unwilling to provide a satisfactory check when requested, Quro may, at its sole discretion, refuse the guest's participation in the journey. In such circumstances, the cancellation terms in Section 3 will apply. 8.7 Special Requirements We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate dietary requirements, allergies, and accessibility needs where advised at the time of booking. However, we cannot guarantee that all requirements can be met in all destinations and circumstances as some destinations cannot guarantee allergen-free or fully accessible services. All accommodation of special requirements remains subject to destination availability, supplier limitations, and advance notice. Please discuss any specific needs with our team before booking. 8.8 Luggage Allowance

Each guest is permitted to bring the following luggage on a Quro journey:

• One piece of checked or hold luggage with a maximum weight of 20kg.

• One piece of carry-on or day bag with a maximum weight of 7kg.

These limits apply to luggage transported on group vehicles and in accommodation transfers. Some journey legs may involve smaller vehicles, domestic carriers, or modes of transport (including boats, tuk-tuks, or light aircraft) that impose stricter size or weight restrictions. Where a specific journey involves more restrictive luggage requirements, this will be stated in the journey listing and/or your pre-departure documentation.

Oversized or overweight luggage may be refused carriage by local transport providers and will be at your risk and expense. Quro accepts no liability for costs incurred as a result of luggage that exceeds the applicable limits. We strongly recommend packing light and using soft-sided bags where possible, as hard-shell suitcases may be impractical on certain journey types.

Quro is not liable for loss, damage, or theft of luggage at any point during a journey. You are responsible for ensuring your travel insurance provides adequate coverage for your personal belongings (see Section 7). 8.9 Ground Transfers

Ground transfers between airports, hotels, and journey departure points are included only where expressly stated in the journey listing and your booking confirmation.

Where group airport transfers are included, these operate within a specific arrival or departure window that will be communicated in your pre-departure documentation. Guests arriving or departing outside the specified transfer window will be responsible for arranging and funding their own transport to or from the relevant point.

If you require a private transfer outside the group transfer window, Quro or your journey host may be able to assist with arrangements at an additional cost payable by you. Any such assistance is provided as a courtesy and does not form part of your journey package.

You are responsible for ensuring you arrive at the designated journey start point on time, including any transit time required to clear customs, immigration, or collect luggage. Quro accepts no liability for any guest who misses a group transfer or departure as a result of late arrival, flight delays, or other circumstances outside our control. Journey departures will not be delayed for guests who have not arrived at the stipulated time.

Where transfers are included, details of transfer times, vehicle types, and meeting points will be provided in your pre-departure documentation. It is your responsibility to review and comply with these details.

In such circumstances, no refund will be provided, and you will be responsible for any additional costs incurred in arranging your onward travel. 12. Privacy Your personal information is collected, used, and stored in accordance with our Privacy Policy, available at qurocollective.com/privacy, as well as the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. By booking, you expressly consent to the collection, use, storage, and disclosure of your personal information (including to recipients located outside Australia) for the purposes of processing your booking, managing your Journey, communicating with you about your travel arrangements, complying with legal and regulatory obligations, and improving our services. We will not sell your personal information to third parties. Quro journeys are hosted by content creators who may produce video, audio, photography, and other media before, during, and after the journey as part of their regular content creation activities. This content may be published on the host's personal channels (including YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, podcasts, and other platforms) as well as on Quro's own marketing channels.

By participating in a Quro journey, you acknowledge and consent to the host creating content throughout the journey, being captured in the background or incidentally in host-created content, and the use of such content by the host and Quro for marketing, social media, editorial, and promotional purposes to the maximum extent permitted by law. If you do not wish to appear in host-created content or Quro marketing materials, you must advise us in writing at hello@qurocollective.com prior to departure. We and the host will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your request, including by avoiding close-up or prominently featured images of you. However, given the nature of small-group, creator-hosted journeys, it may not always be possible to guarantee complete exclusion from all content captured in shared spaces and group settings. Guests remain owners of content you create, however you grant Quro a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to re-share or repost public social-media content you create that features the journey, for marketing purposes. 15. Acceptance of Risk

You acknowledge that Quro journeys may involve travel to remote or unfamiliar destinations where local infrastructure, medical facilities, and emergency services may be limited or unavailable. You understand that participation involves a degree of personal risk, including but not limited to risks associated with travel in developing regions, adventure activities, unfamiliar food and water, wildlife, altitude, heat, and other environmental conditions. We will use due care and skill in planning and operating journeys, but you acknowledge that some risks cannot be fully eliminated.

You acknowledge that some journey destinations may be located a considerable distance from hospitals, medical centres, or other professional medical facilities, and that it may take many hours before professional medical attention can be provided in the event of illness or injury. In the event that you require emergency medical treatment during your journey and are unable to provide consent yourself, you authorise Quro and its representatives (including the journey host and local guides) to seek and secure any medical treatment reasonably considered necessary, including evacuation by air or other means. You agree to reimburse Quro for any costs incurred in arranging emergency medical treatment or evacuation on your behalf.

You confirm that your decision to participate in a Quro journey is made with full awareness of the inherent risks of travel, and that you have made your own independent assessment of those risks. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you accept responsibility for your own safety and wellbeing during the journey to the maximum extent permitted by law and subject to your rights under the ACL. 16. Recreational Services

Certain activities included in or associated with your journey may constitute recreational services within the meaning of Section 139A of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), being activities that involve a significant degree of physical exertion or physical risk and are undertaken for the purposes of recreation, enjoyment, or leisure. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Quro excludes all liability for death, physical injury, or mental injury, or the aggravation, acceleration, or recurrence of such injury, resulting from the supply of recreational services, where such injury or death is suffered as a result of the materialisation of an obvious risk of the recreational activity.

This exclusion does not apply to significant personal injury caused by the reckless conduct of Quro or its employees, and is subject to any non-excludable rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law. You may be asked to sign additional waivers from local operators for specific activities. 17. Optional Activities

Your journey may offer or recommend optional activities, excursions, or experiences that are not included in the journey price and do not form part of these Terms. If you choose to participate in any optional activity, the contract for the provision of that activity is between you and the third-party provider, not Quro. Any assistance, recommendation, or arrangement made by Quro, the journey host, or a local guide in relation to optional activities is provided as a courtesy only and does not make Quro a party to or liable for the optional activity, except to the extent required by law, including where we have not exercised due care and skill in making arrangements at your request.

We do not guarantee the quality or safety standards of optional activities and you participate at your own discretion, subject to your rights under the ACL. You acknowledge that optional activities may carry inherent risks. It is your responsibility to assess the suitability of any optional activity and to ensure that you have adequate insurance coverage. Some optional activities may require you to sign a separate waiver or release form with the third-party provider.
